class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u6211\u77e5\u9053\uff0c\u6700\u8fd1ChatGPT\u8fd9\u4e8b\u513f\u5728\u4e2d\u56fd\u5f88\u706b\uff0c\u5f88\u591a\u4eba\u5728\u8ba8\u8bba\uff0c\u4f46\u5f88\u6709\u610f\u601d\u7684\u662f\uff0c\u5176\u5b9e\u8fd9\u4ef6\u4e8b\u5728\u7f8e\u56fd\uff0c\u5df2\u7ecf\u6ca1\u6709\u592a\u591a\u4eba\u53bb\u8c08\u8bba\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8bdd\u9898\u4e86\u3002\u5176\u5b9e\u4e0d\u5149\u662fChatGPT\uff0c\u5f80\u524d\u770b\u5341\u5e74\uff0c\u5f53\u65f6\u5f88\u591a\u65b0\u6280\u672f\u51fa\u73b0\u7684\u65f6\u5019\uff0c\u6211\u5c31\u53d1\u73b0\u5728\u4e2d\u56fd\u5a92\u4f53\u4e0a\u8ba8\u8bba\u7684\u70ed\u5ea6\u8981\u8fdc\u8fdc\u9ad8\u4e8e\u7f8e\u56fd\u3002\u867d\u7136\u90a3\u4e2a\u6280\u672f\u5176\u5b9e\u4e3b\u8981\u51fa\u73b0\u5728\u7f8e\u56fd\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u4e2d\u56fd\u4eba\u8001\u767e\u59d3\u5bf9\u6b64\u66f4\u5173\u5fc3\u3002\u6211\u8ba4\u4e3a\u8fd9\u662f\u4e00\u4ef6\u597d\u4e8b\uff0c\u4f46\u4e5f\u662f\u4e00\u4ef6\u574f\u4e8b\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>\u5728\u8bb2ChatGPT\u662f\u4ec0\u4e48\u4ee5\u524d\uff0c\u6211\u5148\u7ed9\u5927\u5bb6\u8bb2\u4e00\u4e2a\u5386\u53f2\u6545\u4e8b\uff0c\u8fd9\u5386\u53f2\u6545\u4e8b\u4f60\u542c\u8d77\u6765\u4f60\u5c31\u4f1a\u53d1\u7b11\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u4f60\u56de\u5934\u770b\uff0c\u4eca\u5929\u5f88\u591a\u4eba\u7684\u8868\u73b0\u4e5f\u662f\u5982\u6b64\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u5f88\u591a\u4eba\u95ee\u8bf4\uff0cChatGPT\u6709\u4ec0\u4e48\u65b0\u673a\u4f1a\uff1f\u5766\u7387\u6765\u8bb2\uff0c\u4f60\u6ca1\u673a\u4f1a\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u592a\u8017\u8d44\u6e90\u4e86\uff0c\u4f60\u8017\u4e0d\u8d77\u3002\u90a3\u4e48\u4ec0\u4e48\u4eba\u80fd\u591f\u53d7\u76ca\uff1f\u90a3\u5c31\u662f\u5356\u8d44\u6e90\u7684\u8fd9\u4e9b\u4eba\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p computer scientist and natural language model expert, was invited to give a live share on current hot topics such as artificial intelligence and ChatGPT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">First, why is the emergence of ChatGPT causing panic?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I know that ChatGPT has been a hot topic in China recently, and a lot of people are talking about it, but it&#8217;s interesting that in the United States, not many people are talking about it anymore. In fact, it is not just ChatGPT. Looking back 10 years, when many new technologies were emerging, I found that the heat of discussion in the Chinese media was much higher than that in the United States. Although that technology is actually mainly in the United States, but the Chinese people are more concerned about it. I think that&#8217;s a good thing, but it&#8217;s also a bad thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The &#8220;bad&#8221; is that these technologies are actually over-hyped, and in the process, there are many people who fish in troubled waters to make money from them. Blockchain, for example, was so hot at the time, but now it&#8217;s not discussed much, right? This is the first one. The second is the meta-universe, and at present only Facebook in the United States is still insisting on doing it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In China, many people are talking about whether we will live in a completely virtual world in the future. Finally, from the end of last year to the beginning of this year, Facebook poured tens of billions of dollars into this area, and did not listen to a single sound, and finally began large-scale layoffs. Now, a hot topic is ChatGPT, some people are excited, some people are afraid, and now I also see that there are many people in China in the troubled waters, trying to cut everyone again leek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before I tell you what ChatGPT is, let me tell you a historical story that you laugh at, but when you look back, so do many people today.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In 1503, Columbus&#8217;s son wrote down this story, Columbus was sailing west to the New World, and halfway to Jamaica, there was no food on board. So Columbus and his crew had to rely on the locals to provide food and drink. As a result, in the evening, Jamaicans found that the moon really turned red, and then slowly disappeared. The locals were in a panic, saying that God was going to punish them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The tribal leader hurriedly begged Columbus and promised to comply with all his conditions. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Columbus said, &#8220;Well, I&#8217;ll go to the tent and pray to God that he won&#8217;t punish you, but I need a little time,&#8221; and Columbus went into the tent. In fact, after entering the tent, Columbus is holding an hourglass, looking at the clock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Today, with our knowledge of astronomy, we must know the duration of the total lunar eclipse, which will last for about 48 minutes, at which time the moon will reappear. But these Jamaicans don&#8217;t know that. All they saw was that Columbus came out of the tent and the moon came out. Then Columbus said, It is because God has listened to my counsel and promised to forgive you, but you must give us good food. So, the local people thanked them a lot and provided them with food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">What is the point of this story? There is a reason behind the occurrence of a total lunar eclipse, but when people do not know this reason, they often can only attribute this natural phenomenon to the role of a god. And this God is himself created by man. In other words, after creating a God for himself, man lay down at the feet of God and became his slave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m giving you a course on the History of World Civilizations.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In fact, the process of the development of this civilization is the process of mankind&#8217;s continuous understanding of the laws of nature. Our little progress is so that we are no longer like the local natives who blindly believe that one person praying to God can really stop the moon from disappearing. We now know that behind solar and lunar eclipses are actually Kepler&#8217;s three laws of planets at work, and then behind Kepler&#8217;s three laws of planets is Newton&#8217;s law of gravitation. After human beings understand this reason, they are no longer just afraid of nature, and we can use the laws of nature to do many, many things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">What is the technical basis of ChatGPT?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Going back in time, ChatGPT is much the same, with a mathematical model called a language model at work. In other words, behind ChatGPT is a mathematical model. There are three main reasons why this technology is powerful today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">First, it is computationally intensive;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Second, it has a lot of data;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Third, the way language models are trained today is much better than it used to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, what is a language model? Or is it a product of what era?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It was developed in 1972 by a team led by my mentor Fred Jelinek. Specifically, it was a technique he was working on at IBM to measure how likely a word or linguistic phenomenon is to occur. So what&#8217;s it for? It was first used for speech recognition, then for machine translation, and then for computer question answering, which is what we are familiar with today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">At that time, it can be summarized, for example, there is a 10,000 word article, so how you can summarize the content of the article in ten sentences, which is a mathematical problem for people who do this natural language processing. In other words, what are your terms? You get 10,000 words, and then what do you want? It could be ten sentences, a hundred words. Then there are many combinations here, you can pick a few sentences at random, or you can break some sentences into two paragraphs, and remove those less important modifications or descriptions. Then, you can also combine two sentences into a sentence, so when you synthesize a piece of text, the computer will calculate a probability, which sentences are more likely to combine together, it will help you synthesize according to the probability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And the ChatGPT we see today is this big language model, which will pick a text with the greatest probability and the most likely occurrence to show you. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">So in general, the process of ChatGPT generating results is a process that uses a lot of computing resources to compute. It requires a very large amount of data to support, there are many, many Gpus (computer processors). ChatGPT could not have been built without these things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">And today&#8217;s ChatGPT is not only technology, but also a lot of people behind it. They also hired a firm to review ChatGPT&#8217;s results. For example, if ChatGPT produces a hundred abstracts, they are all good, and I can&#8217;t tell them apart, then these people are responsible for helping me figure out which ones are more like accurate abstracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">So, in fact, you can see that there is a language model behind ChatGPT, and the technology for this language model has been around since 1972. Up to now, after 50 years, in fact, everyone in the industry does not think it is a great thing. Before that, the language model had actually done a lot of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The term &#8220;language model&#8221; was first coined by my mentor, Jarnik. He came to Johns Hopkins in about 1993, and I came to the university in 1996 and became his student. So the Chinese word for this word, that is, the four words you see &#8220;language model&#8221;, was created when I published a paper in the 1990s. At the time, only those of us in the circle knew that it could do a lot of things, but you didn&#8217;t think to say, hey, this is going to be a hot topic later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">You can put it this way: the language model is to ChatGPT what Kepler&#8217;s three planetary laws are to lunar eclipses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">What was the beginning of the &#8220;language model&#8221;?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">So what was the state of language models at the time they were invented?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In fact, in the 1990s, the models obtained by simple statistical methods were very inaccurate. This is the equivalent of, let&#8217;s say, you look at the planets, but you use Ptolemy&#8217;s geocentric prediction, which is very inaccurate. So, that&#8217;s when we started to introduce a lot of information about syntax, themes, semantics. Then, the language model gets very complicated. This complexity leads to a big problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What kind of problem?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">For example, I did a very complicated language model at the time, how many parameters did the language model have? 6 million parameters, that is, the size of the language model is basically determined by this parameter. I was working on the largest and most complex language models that could be made at that time.
