In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the planning of many sports events around the world, and e-sports has also been greatly affected in terms of offline attendance. At the same time, such a special environment also highlights the characteristics and advantages of e-sports “relying on online platforms”. We can see that many important esports were able to overcome the difficulties and meet with you as scheduled. Which also brought happiness to many users during the epidemic period.
The research institute predicts that in 2020, the number of global esports users will exceed 495 million. And the revenue scale will surpass the $1 billion mark for the first time. It can be said that e-sports is becoming a new sports form with the most potential and the most rapid development in the world. It has become a popular fashion sport among young people and a new language that crosses national boundaries and nationalities.
There has never been a lack of voices of doubt along the way
Although there has never been a lack of voices of doubt along the way, there is no doubt that e-sports is the product of the current era. The result of continuous interaction and continuous evolution between the sports industry and the whole digital society. As well as the inevitable development of civilization and scientific and technological progress. Therefore, we can’t look at esports in isolation. If we want to “compete to see the future”, we should put esports in the perspective of globalization and see what key trends are changing the future development direction of esports.
Last December, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued the Eighth Olympic Summit Declaration to encourage exchanges and cooperation between traditional sports and esports at the global level. This year, La Liga, NBA, ATP, F1 and many other traditional sports events are also trying to become esports, to break the offline shutdown situation. And esports, in many aspects such as event system building, alliance building, talent training, global cooperation, continue to “draw closer” to traditional sports and “learn from”. The entry of esports into the Asian Games in 2018 and the establishment of the “International esports Federation” last year have accelerated the standardization process of esports on a global scale. And taken a key step in actively integrating into the international Olympic value system.
W need to pay attention to is that esports and traditional sports are embracing each other
So the first trend that we need to pay attention to is that esports and traditional sports are embracing each other. And this embrace not only provides new possibilities and perspectives for the development of traditional sports, but also changes the evolution of esports.
To pay attention to is the new changes in the global sports landscape.
The second thing to pay attention to is the new changes in the global sports landscape. If you think of basketball, you might think of NBA. When it comes to soccer, in addition to the World Cup, you may also think of some traditional soccer powers, or top soccer leagues such as Serie A and La Liga. With esports as the core, a new sports pattern, a more extensive participation in the new order, is taking shape.
Data show that in addition to the rapid development in the field of esports in China, South Korea, the United States and other countries. In recent years, the overall acceptance and participation of esports in Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia and other places, are also gradually rising. Major well-known esports, also have accelerated the layout of globalization. Take Tencent’s games as an example. Last year, PUBG MOBILE, which is popular around the world, hosted more than 1.7 million games worldwide, covering 169 countries and regions. In addition, the Clash Royale Professional League, for the first time in the regular season, became international this year. The Eastern Division alone attracted players from more than 10 countries, including China, Japan and South Korea. The League of Legends, a professional league from China. It will also broadcast live in five languages this year, covering several countries around the world.
The new connection brought by this new order will not only generate more business opportunities in the dimensions of competition copyright and sponsorship, but also have a profound impact on global cultural exchanges.
Watch is the interaction between cutting-edge technology and esports.
The third trend to watch is the interaction between cutting-edge technology and esports.
For two decades, technological innovations have been reshaping esports. From the earliest LAN battle, to dozens of players real-time online transnational games. From PC competition to mobile esports where you can watch games anytime and anywhere. The application of new technologies can always improve the experience of esports in a subversive way, and esports. Because of extensive user participation, the ability to constantly iterate and upgrade. And the growth of business value, promote the rapid popularization of new technologies.
This year is the first year for the country to vigorously develop “new infrastructure” and also the first year for the commercial use of 5G. Under the tide of technological change. Tencent esports also tries to create a new esports experience that is more concerned about users’ needs and more oriented to The Times and the future through its own technical capabilities.
At present, we have cooperated with the China Media Group to establish the first State Key Laboratory of Ultra HD Video and Audio in China to explore the environment of 4K and even 8K ultra HD event broadcasting. In addition, we are also trying to build three-dimensional game scenes, with digital avatars acting as game commentators. And AI trainers for professional players. In the future, players may be able to choose their own viewing angles and enjoy immersive watching experiences through VR technology. The “small stage” of e-sports is reflecting the “big panorama” of digital life in the future.
As a representative of the “new economy”
At the same time, as a representative of the “new economy”, the new experience brought by esports is also breeding the new business form of “online + offline”. Which is expected to bring new vitality to the recovery and development of the global economy.
In last year’s League of Legends World Finals, Louis Vuitton and Fist Game launched a series of co-branded products. Which were warmly welcomed by players around the world. The stock in Europe was sold out within an hour. And the KPL Spring finals ended in June this year. Tencent e-sports carried out the global broadcast of the event, the total popularity of live broadcast exceeded 180 million. Directly refreshing the historical record of each live platform, the number of online spectators. In the future, Tencent e-sports will also join hands with Hero VSPN and other strategic partners to create more high-quality events. With “new experience” breed “new business forms”, for all walks of life ecological partners, to create new growth.
We still have a lot of difficulties to overcome and many new paths to explore.
These new trends not only indicate the broad development space of esports in the future. But also mean that we still have a lot of difficulties to overcome and many new paths to explore. This would not have been possible without the strong support of the competent authorities and local governments. Here, I would like to thank Hainan in particular. As the frontier window of China’s reform and opening up and the most promising free trade port in the world. Hainan has provided a broad platform for the global development of new forms of esports.
Last year, we launched a series of new cultural and creative strategic cooperation with the Hainan provincial government. Tencent E-sports, Tencent Pictures and more than 10 ecological enterprises were registered in Hainan. In the future, Tencent will continue to deepen cooperation with Hainan to help esports become the new growth pole of Hainan. Meanwhile, we also hope to make use of the unique advantages of Hainan Free Trade Port, work together with global partners to seize opportunities and move forward with vigor to draw a new blueprint for future esports and see the future together! Thank you very much.
